Railway
network is probably the most convenient way to get around
Poland, because Poland is covered by a dense network
of rail. Polish railway network makes possible to get
almost any place you want to go. Furthermore, the railway
is an excellent way for a traveller to reach the major
cities in Europe. Besides trains in Poland are inexpensive
but sometimes trains can be overcrowded, especially
on routes to the Baltic Coast. There are 2 main types
of trains: express trains and fast trains. The express
trains are fastest and more comfortable than the fast
trains but, of course, more expensive. Almost all trains
have two classes: the second class and the first class.
The first class compartments are quite comfortable and
more convenient for longer trips. Since 1992 Polish
railway has started new types of passenger's trains
Eurocity and Intercity. These modern trains offer rapid
and regular service between most important cities, and
don't stop on their route. For example, the express
train from Warsaw to Krakow goes 4,2 hours but this
route takes an Intercity train approximately 2 hours
45 minutes.
Most
train stations have a quite good standard, though they
sometimes look rather ugly. You can find there: a restaurant,
a post office, newspaper kiosks, shops, snack bars,
toilets and a left luggage office. Timetables are posted
up the main hall and are divided between departures
(odjazdy) and arrivals (przyjazdy). In any case ask
for more information into the Information Office.
